An antitubercular agent that inhibits the transfer of mycolic acids into the cell wall of the tubercle bacillus. It may also inhibit the synthesis of spermidine in mycobacteria. Soluble 1 in 1 of water, 1 in 4 of alcohol, 1 in 850 of chloroform, and 1 in 9 of methyl alcohol; very slightly soluble in ether. A solution in water is dextrorotatory. Solutions are stable when heated at 121 °C for 10 minutes.
