Global Positioning System (India)

The Global Positioning System is a navigation and position locating system based on reception of signals from NAVSTAR satellites. GPS receivers provide highly accurate time fixes anywhere worldwide. GPS system time is a worldwide standard atomic time which is exactly related to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC or "Greenwich time"). Local time is Greenwich Time offset by hours corresponding to local time zone. GPS products can show you your exact position on the Earth anytime, in any weather, anywhere. GPS navigation and position determination is based on measuring the distance from the user position to the precise locations of the GPS satellites as they orbit. By measuring the distance to four GPS satellites, it is possible to establish three coordinates of a user's position (latitude, longitude, and altitude) as well as precise Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).
The GPS satellite antenna/receiver can be easily mounted anywhere. It is rugged, sealed against the environment; it is usually installed outdoors on a roof or indoors under a skylight. It does not have to be oriented in any special manner other than to have a broad view of the sky. The GPS Display is specially designed for the Indian Railways to serve the passengers for better. With technological innovations improving day by day the GPS display brings more sophistication for rail commutators or train users. Stations Names can be displayed inside the train compartments whereby the passengers need not peep out at each station to know about their destinations, the feature includes an LED display with an alarm. Whenever a station passes by the station name is displayed on the screen without an alarm while a destination station arrives the station name is displayed with an alarm when the train is 10 Km away from the destination, allowing the passengers to get themselves ready for alight. The GPS Display also displays the list of stations at the Departure terminal according to the train Number entered in the main unit, the train number is user programmable where up to 25 train numbers can be loaded to the device. Station Names can be displayed in three different languages, English, Hindi and Local Language.
